The Los Angeles International Airport, or LAX, is the largest and busiest airport in California, and the seventh busiest airport in the world. It’s no wonder it can be such a hassle getting through the crowds, not to mention traffic and parking. But if you come prepared, the experience doesn’t have to be all that bad. Here are 10 smart traveler tips for LAX passengers.
1. Allowed Items
To avoid hassle and time wasting at the airport security checkpoints, visit the Los Angeles World Airports website to get an updated list of items that you are and aren’t allowed to bring with you. Most things can be brought with you so long as you keep them in your checked in luggage. Carry-on items, however, are more restricted.
2. Avoid wearing excessive metal
Another thing that will expedite the security checkpoint process is if you leave the jewelry and metal accessories in your bags, instead of on your person.
3. Leave gifts unwrapped
You never know if a metal item inside of a gift box will set off alarms or if you’ll be picked for random searching. Leave gift boxes unwrapped, just in case. It will save time and wrapping paper.
4. Place I.D. tags on all bags
This incredibly important, especially at LAX, where there will be hundreds of people walking around at any given terminal, and misplacing your bags can be an easy thing to do.
5. Print passes electronically
Save some time by printing your boarding passes at home. Just visit the airline website to get your electronic pass.
6. Use shared and public transport

10. Arrive early
Arrive at least two hours early at the airport. This will give you plenty of time to deal with the crowds, the security checkpoints and the boarding gates without the stress.
